About the role

 

The System Operations Generation Specialist is responsible for installing, commissioning, operating, and maintaining mobile plant to support planned and unplanned network outages, or network loading constraints.   Mobile plant includes mobile or embedded generation assets, mobile regulators and other ancillary equipment. to support distribution network load during planned and unplanned outages, and during fault restoration. The role is responsible for coordination of deployment of plant including scheduling and assessing plant requirements as well as undertaking HV and LV switching to facilitate deployment of mobile plant.

 

The role provides technical leadership for mobile plant and generator management including development and maintenance of associated procedures and documentation, mentoring other personnel on generator operations.

 

Base location for this role is negotiable, however frequent travel across Melbourne and Regional Victoria is required.

 

This position is covered by the Powercor & CitiPower & ASU, PA UWU Enterprise Agreement. The salary range for this role is Pay Point 20 ($147,328) – Pay Point 24 ($172,391) + 13% of super + allowances.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Assess network loads and configuration to determine mobile plant deployment requirements.
  • Coordinate mobile plant transportation, site placement, and establish site security
  • Conduct pre-start checks for mobile plant, including synchronisation of generators to network.
  • Conduct fault finding and problem-solving.
  • Manage equipment maintenance and servicing, fleet readiness, and availability rosters for peak periods.
  • Estimate & evaluate alternative support options for projects. Provide detailed estimates for planned works.
  • Engage with internal & external stakeholders, including planned outage management, to integrate generation support into outage plans.
  • Assess and provide expert advice on procurement and augmentation of mobile plant fleet

 

What you’ll need from day one

 

  • Engineering or electrical qualification, such as: Bachelor of Electrical Engineering, Cert III in Electrotechnology (Electrician), Cert III in ESI – Power Systems – Distribution Overhead or Advanced Diploma (ESI Power Systems).
  • Demonstrated experience providing or assisting in testing services of Electrical Plant, Protection & Control systems up to 500kV or Industrial / Control systems.
  • Proficiency in HV/LV switching operations.
  • Strong understanding of distribution network configurations and load management.
  • Strong understanding of protection settings and operations for mobile generators.
  • Working knowledge of SCADA, GIS, engineering protection databases, network access request and Google Enterprise.
  • An ability to understand schematic drawings for fault finding associated with generation equipment
