About the role

 

The Primary Design Engineer plays a critical role in providing specialised engineering expertise, particularly in the design of substations, terminal stations and other station projects. This includes contributing to project scoping, cost estimations, and technical evaluations to ensure robust and efficient design solutions.

 

Working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, the Primary Design Engineer is accountable for delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and timely design services. Success in this role is driven by a commitment to innovative thinking, adherence to sound engineering principles, and a proactive yet pragmatic approach to delivering professional customer service excellence.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Provide effective engineering design and advice in relation to the primary design elements for areas such as but not limited to electrical substation designs up to 220kV, earthing, lighting and cable design, to agreed standards, and in accordance with the relevant technical manuals, OH&S Act, ‘Safety in Design’ guidelines and customer requirements
  • Collaborate with other design groups to effectively deliver design to scope, timeframes and cost
  • Verify designs produced by others for applicability, as well as manufacturer supplied drawings, in accordance with agreed standards, ‘Safety in Design’ guidelines and company requirements
  • Assist with the development of design standards & policies in accordance with organisational, regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Actively support and implement new or modified processes and systems 
  • Assist in field investigations, as required
  • Ensure design works are compliance with internal and external standards
  • Perform design calculations, analysis and prepare reports

 

 

Key Criteria

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)
  • Eligible and working towards one of the following (or already registered): National Engineering Registration (NER) and Registered Professional Engineer of Professional Australia (RPEng)
  • Eligible and working towards being registered with the Business Licensing Authority (BLA)
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) is advantageous
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Victoria (RPEV) is advantageous
  • Detailed knowledge of principles and concepts associated with the design of distribution, and sub transmission substations in accordance with AS 2067
  • Strong knowledge in using AutoCAD (or equivalent), GIS, electrical networks, operation, and construction plan
  • Knowledge of other electrical design software such as CYMCAP, CDEGS would be advantageous.
  • Understanding of Safety in Design practices
