About the role:
The purpose of this position is critical in the development, application, and continual improvement of bushfire and network safety risk management across the CitiPower (CP), Powercor (PAL), United Energy (UE) and Australian Energy Operations (AEO) electricity networks.
This role is responsible for developing the maturity of the business’s Bushfire Risk Model to ensure it reflects best practice and conducting Formal Safety Assessments with subject matters experts to minimise network safety risks as far as practicable, ensuring plans are developed and material business cases justified and advocated as part of the Electricity Distribution Price Reset.
The role requires strong collaboration with internal stakeholders across the business and respectful relationships with external stakeholders such as Energy Safe Victoria (ESV) to ensure network safety commitments are achieved.
What you’ll deliver:
- Take accountability for developing and maintaining the currency of the Bushfire Risk Model (BRM) to ensure it reflects best practice, accurately represents our risk profile and meets the needs of stakeholders.
- Directly engage with external consultants and government agencies to scope, establish contracts and project manage all BRM improvement initiatives.
- Engage with cross functional stakeholders and take the lead in facilitating bushfire mitigation and network safety risk minimisation assessments for each of the respective networks to identify potential risk mitigation initiatives, for known causes, in accordance with the requirements of the Electricity Safety Act, Electricity Safety (Management) Regulations and our Electricity Safety Management Schemes.
- Develop risk minimisation business cases for initiatives requiring material investment, in line with our investment procedures, and advocate internally and with ESV and the AER as part of the Electricity Distribution Price Reset.
- Undertake network safety risk assessments in consultation with stakeholders to identify additional controls to mitigate potential risks in accordance with the requirements of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
- Undertake technical assessments in consultation with stakeholders to ensure that network safety and bushfire risks have been considered in the development of technical standards, designs, procedures and work practices.
To succeed in the role you’ll have:
- Detailed knowledge of contemporary risk management principles.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organisation, influence and negotiate effectively at all levels both internal and external to the business.
- Strong organisational and report writing skills.
- Previous experience in the electricity industry.
- Strong understanding of electricity safety legislation.
- Previous experience in dealing with external regulatory authorities.
