About the role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Data Engineer professional to join our Network Analytics team in a full time and permanent role based at our Melbourne CBD head office.
The role itself will lead the development of cutting-edge Smart Meter applications that power our electricity distribution networks. In this role, you’ll design and build ETLs, data pipelines, analytical tools, dashboards, and reports that enable smarter decision-making and more reliable energy delivery. You’ll also play a key role in providing operational support across our divisions to ensure our solutions deliver ongoing business value.
What you’ll deliver:
- Build scalable, fault-tolerant ETL workflows (batch & stream) to ingest, transform, and load master data into analytical stores.
- Maintain and enhance the business data model to support evolving analytical use cases.
- Implement automated data quality checks, anomaly detection, and monitoring processes.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related incidents, working closely with engineering, operations, and IT security.
- Collaborate with SMEs and technical specialists to shape high-level solution designs that meet business needs.
- Develop secure, high-quality applications, dashboards, and reports.
- Validate solutions against business requirements and scope of works.
- Monitor performance of existing solutions to ensure they continue delivering business value.
- Act as a subject matter expert for ETLs, data pipelines, metering, asset, and network automation systems.
- Translate Smart Grid strategies into operational design projects, leveraging expertise across United energy.
To succeed in this role, you’ll have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineer or IT/Computer Science or business-related discipline (preferred)
- Proven experience developing ETL workflows, data pipelines, and analytical solutions.
- Strong SQL and database expertise, with a passion for data integrity and quality.
- Python programming experience
- Well-developed statistical modelling skills
- Machine and Artificial Intelligence experience.
- Experience with data visualisation tools and dashboard/report development.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work across multiple business units.
- Strong communication skills to liaise with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
