About the role

 

The Project Engineer is responsible for leading and coordinating high‑quality, efficient, and cost‑effective design and engineering services, ensuring all project deliverables meet required standards. A key focus of the role is proactive design management and design coordination, overseeing complex, multi‑disciplinary design packages to support successful project delivery for both internal and external clients.

 

A strong background in transmission project design is highly desirable. The position supports large‑scale infrastructure programs that require deep technical understanding, precision, and adherence to transmission design standards. Experience with design development, design reviews, design processes, commissioning interfaces, and coordination with multiple engineering and field‑based stakeholders will be critical to success.

 

In addition to design leadership, the role provides broad engineering support to the Energy Solutions and Major Projects teams, including contribution to commissioning activities, site-based technical support, and coordination of procurement and technical documentation. Working within a collaborative team environment, the Project Engineer ensures timely, innovative, and customer‑focused design outcomes by applying sound engineering principles and a commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Ensuring design outcomes meet scope and that quality levels are maintained through the project lifecycle.
  • Report on progress status, maintain program and tracking to milestone dates. Design reporting will include fortnightly reviews of the RFI, variation, risk registers and the cost tracking earned value tool.
  • Coordinate the various disciplines as required including Underground, Overhead, Primary, Protection & Control, Secondary, Civil/Structural, Communications and SCADA for life of project.
  • The role spans the entire project lifecycle, providing support to CDMs during pre‑scoping/scoping stage and continuing through the project delivery in collaboration with PMs until final handover
  • Liaise with internal and external clients as required and represent and build the Design and Customer Services and PNS brands.
  • Prepare design offer document in accordance with scope, contractual requirements and in conjunction with our delivery partner.
  • Manage day‑to‑day liaison with external contractors and consultants to facilitate project commencement and ongoing delivery.
  • Lead and chair design project reviews, including Safety in Design activities
  • Preparation and review of ITP’s for FAT and SAT.
  • Undertakes audits of a variety of projects in the Design and Customer Programs team.

Key Criteria

 

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)
  • Project Management Qualification (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of the electrical distribution / transmission network, particularly design and compliance with Australian Standards.
  • It is preferred that a working knowledge of Powercor’s technical standards, construction practices and estimating tools is obtained.
  • Experience of design management activities and processes and managing multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance issues, OHS Act, standards and codes.
  • Knowledge of bid and business development and project scoping processes.
