About the Role:

This is a permanent opportunity working in a part of our business that plays a fundamental role in ongoing Company engineering success, with a strong focus on our HV network technical performance and ongoing compliance.

As a Principal Network Analysis Engineer, this role will have a primary responsibility in managing the development of the distribution and sub-transmission networks up to our interface with the transmission network for network augmentation, major load / generation connections, and ongoing compliance in regards to performance of the network and system security.

Using your skills in power system analysis, static and dynamic network modelling principals, and effective stakeholder management, you will also be accountable for leading the development, use and maintenance of a suite of systems analysis models. This will help to ensure accurate representation of the current and future network.

Some further key duties and responsibilities: 

  • Effective use of network models to assess and define both current and future network performance, ensuring ongoing continuous improvements, fit for purpose, and ensuring that training and information on this communicated to the wider business and stakeholders
  • Act as the lead on modelling, assessment and negotiation of proposed load and generation connections to the sub-transmission and distribution networks
  • Provide detailed engineering advice and support to both internal and external stakeholders for major network augmentations, generation connections and ongoing network operations. 
  • Manage all aspects of successful network planning including risk management, analysis of current and future customer needs, ensure regulatory obligations are met, and integration of generation and innovative technologies is achieved
  • Provide high levels of effective stakeholder management and communication skills with a range of individuals and groups including the Major Projects Group, AEMO, developers, consultants and network operators


Required skills and experience: 

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering
  • Extensive working experience in an electricity industry role, including experience in power system analysis, static and dynamic network modelling principals and knowledge of power harmonic modelling analysis
  • Detailed knowledge of generating systems and the impacts of their connection to the transmission, sub transmission and distribution networks
  • Experience of power system analysis with PSS/E and PSCAD is essential. Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, Sincal is beneficial 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including strong written and visual communication skills and the ability to influence and negotiate
  • An ability to understand and apply commercial analysis on projects, as well as the ability to project manage effectively managing key resource and time constraints
