About the role

The Principal Lines Engineer plays a key role in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the overhead transmission and distribution sector, with exposure to generation and industrial high-voltage (HV) projects.

 

This role is responsible for leading the design and delivery of transmission and sub-transmission line projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with industry standards, and alignment with project objectives. It involves contributing across the full project lifecycle, including concept development, detailed design, and support through to construction and commissioning.

 

The position requires the application of advanced technical expertise combined with strong project leadership to drive efficient, innovative, and commercially sound outcomes. It also includes mentoring junior engineers, supporting capability development within the team, and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and technical leadership.

 

 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and manage overhead transmission and sub-transmission line design projects, applying strong technical expertise, engineering judgement, and project leadership to deliver compliant, high-quality outcomes that meet client and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver innovative solutions across the overhead transmission and distribution sector, with exposure to generation and industrial HV projects
  • Provide specialist engineering input into project estimation, scheduling, value improvement, risk, safety and constructability workshops
  • Provide technical advice and contribute to innovative, sustainable engineering solutions that support network upgrades, continuous improvement, safety, and operational excellence.
  • Build and maintain overhead transmission line engineering capabilities within the team, including identifying and addressing skill gaps

What you’ll need from day one

  • Relevant degree qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Structural Engineering.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status, or the ability to obtain.
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Victoria (RPEV) and/or registration with the Victorian Business Licensing Authority (BLA) as required.
  • Ability to obtain professional engineering registration in other Australian states and territories, including Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ), as required.
  • Extensive understanding of safety considerations in transmission line design and construction including assessment and management of electrical hazards such as low frequency induction and earth potential rise
  • Expert knowledge in the design and construction of overhead sub-transmission and transmission electrical networks in accordance with Australian and International Standards
  • Technical leadership and development of project design and delivery teams
