About the Role:

We are currently looking for an experienced and strategic Head of Health, Safety and Sustainability to join our senior leadership team in a full-time and permanent capacity based at our Melbourne CBD head office.

 

This pivotal role will lead the development and execution of Health, Safety and Sustainability (HSS) programs across our large-scale renewable energy, utilities and infrastructure projects and maintenance contracts in Australia and New Zealand.

 

Leading a team of dedicated professionals this role will drive a proactive safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and embed sustainability and community engagement initiatives into all areas of the business. The role will also have a strong focus on fostering strong relationships with local communities, First Peoples, regulatory bodies, and internal stakeholders, while driving the team to deliver operational excellence.


Other key duties and responsibilities: 

  • Lead and evolve Beon’s HSS strategy and culture across complex, high-risk projects.
  • Drive a proactive safety culture through the provision of expert advice and guidance and coaching and mentoring of operational leadership on emerging risks, regulatory changes and best practice.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance and best practice in HSE performance and risk management.
  • Provide leadership and assist project teams in the development and maintenance of positive relationships with community, local First People and organisations, Government, Industry and clients
  • Drive continuous improvement and reporting of HSS metrics.
  • Oversee environmental and cultural heritage obligations and stakeholder engagement.
  • Lead Beon’s sustainability agenda and Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Contribute to a culture that is focused on workplace continuous improvement through identifying and supporting improvement initiatives and opportunities.

 

To succeed in this role you will have: 

  • Tertiary qualifications in OHS, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • Extensive experience in high-risk industries such as construction, energy, or infrastructure.
  • Proven leadership of HSE systems, compliance programs, and safety culture initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of environmental management, stakeholder engagement, and First Peoples inclusion.
  • In depth understanding of human resource management, process management, process improvement and project management principles.
  • Experience in consulting and resolving work practices and safety issues involving employees and management at all levels within a large organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and developing a high performing team.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead strategic initiatives and influence at an executive level.
