About the Role:
We are currently looking for an experienced Grid Connections Engineer to join our growing engineering team on a full-time permanent capacity based at our Melbourne CBD head office.
Working as part of our Grid Connections team this position will be responsible for supporting the registration and commissioning process for Beon’s solar farm portfolio as well as managing the plant operational performance and grid compliance obligations.
In addition, this role will also support the procurement and direct management of power systems works packages, negotiations with AEMO and Network Service Providers to ensure key deadlines, plant performance and grid compliance requirements are met.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in working within the electricity distribution and transmission industry. In addition, this candidate will also have experience working with electrical power systems, building strong relationships with stakeholders, problem solving complex issues and have excellent communication skills and time management skills.
Other key duties and responsibilities:
- Develop and deliver grid compliance testing plans and deliver compliance obligations during the operations and maintenance period of projects
- Negotiate and manage with the Network Service Provider (NSP) and AEMO to achieve compliance outcomes
- Provide quotations and estimates to the bids and O&M teams for new O&M projects
- Work with consultants and Grid Connection Managers to deliver R1 generator performance study packages for generator registration, develop R2 test plans and negotiate acceptance of testing regime with the NSP & AEMO and deliver hold point test reports and R2 model validation reports
- Negotiate with the Network Service Provider (NSP) and AEMO throughout the registration process
- Develop or procure PSSE and PSCAD models for a variety of generation and non-generation projects
- Analyse, select and model appropriate Power Plant Controller (PPC) and inverter settings for stable and compliant solar farm operation
- Document site-specific SCADA requirements that come out of the connection studies
- Advise and rectify performance related issues with regards to the control system and inverters.

To succeed in this role you will have:
- Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
- NER and Victorian Registration (desirable)
- Knowledge of the electricity distribution and transmission industry including renewable generation (solar/wind)
- Strong knowledge of all aspects of the AEMO R1 and R2 processes, and the requirements of ongoing grid compliance monitoring
- Strong technical understanding of electrical power systems, harmonics, substation primary plant, protection systems, inverters, SCADA and control theory
- Demonstrated ability to manage consultancy contracts or to deliver works while engaged under a consultancy contract
- Experience negotiating with AEMO and NSPs advocating for the connection of solar farms or wind farms
- Involvement in early-stage studies or delivery of energy storage projects (preferred).
- Experience in a delivery role in the electrical construction industry (preferred).
