Fixed Assets and Capital Accountant

About the Role:

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Accountant to join our Fixed Assets and Capital Accounting team based at our CBD Market Street head office. 

This is a permanent role responsible for the maintenance and management of the multibillion dollar statutory, taxation and regulatory fixed asset registers held by CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy. 

This includes performing all relevant month end closure activities including analysis, processing, and reconciling of Capex and Opex spend. Ensure the timely and accurate recording of additions, retirements, transfers, depreciation, and amortisation, in line with relevant Australian and International Accounting Standards and company policy.  Monitor and report on customer contribution and gifted assets activities.

The ideal candidate will have previous accounting experience, knowledge of fixed asset and/or capex accounting.  In addition to high attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. We are looking for a candidate with strong stakeholder management skills, a continuous process improvement mindset, advanced excel and familiar with SAP.

 

What you’ll deliver: 

  • Process asset additions, retirements, transfers & depreciation in the fixed asset register
  • Prepare monthly fixed asset related balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare quarterly fixed assets movement schedules.
  • Prepare fixed asset schedules for regulatory submissions.
  • Monitor highlight and action outstanding Work in Progress balances to ensure assets are cleared in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with project teams and process daily transactional tasks and queries that are raised.
  • Prepare and review rebate models and post month end journals.
  • Prepare customer contribution models and post month end journals.
  • Identify and highlight potential opportunities for improved business performance.

 

To succeed in this role you’ll have:

  • Degree qualification in Finance or Accounting/Commerce (required)
  • Have or be working towards CA/CPA qualification.
  • Solid technical expertise in relation to knowledge and application of Australian and International Accounting Standards, Interpretations, Exposure Drafts, Conceptual Framework and Corporations Law
  • Good Fixed Asset accounting technical knowledge and experience in a similar role
  • Advanced knowledge of an ERP accounting system (preferred), SAP and MS Office (particularly Microsoft Excel).
