About the role
The Environmental Advisor will support the environmental, planning, and heritage assessments and approval processes for projects across CitiPower and Powercor. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating environmental and heritage works, reviewing scopes and reports, and liaising with internal project teams, external consultants, and approval authorities to ensure the smooth delivery of environmental and heritage approvals for major projects.
We welcome applications from all locations, as an experienced Environmental Advisors you will be ready to step up and support the Major Projects team. You will bring sound knowledge of approvals and environmental coordination in Victoria, with demonstrated experience in managing multiple stakeholders and balancing compliance with project delivery needs. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in shaping the sustainable delivery of critical infrastructure projects.
Key responsibilities:
- Coordinate environmental, planning, and heritage assessments for projects to comply with relevant legislation across CitiPower and Powercor.
- Review project scopes, reports, and plans to identify and integrate environmental and heritage requirements, providing quality assurance and feedback to project teams and consultants as needed.
- Support the preparation of environment and heritage approval application documentation for projects.
- Undertake preliminary assessment of project scope and concept designs and brief project teams on statutory approval requirements and timelines to obtain.
- Coordinate site surveys, environmental assessments, and other necessary activities, through effective collaboration with consultants and contractors.
- Act as a point of contact as Environmental, Planning and Heritage SME for internal project teams and external consultants, facilitating effective communication between all parties involved in the environmental and heritage approval processes.
- Assist senior team members in working with external regulatory bodies (i.e., DEECA, councils) to obtain necessary approvals and remain compliant with relevant legislation.
- Support compilation of approvals handover documentation to enable the HSE team to verify compliance with environmental and heritage requirements during construction.
- Assist in the development and improvement of environmental and heritage management processes, tools, and procedures.
- Contribute to training initiatives by supporting the delivery of awareness programs on environmental and heritage management for internal teams.
To succeed in the role, you’ll have:
- Relevant Tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental resource management or related field (required)
- Construction induction training (white card), or the ability to obtain (required).
- Working knowledge of environmental protection legislation relevant to projects and field works preferred (i.e. Planning and Environment Act, Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act, EPBC Act, EP Act).
- Understanding of environmental management principles and practices, including ecological assessments (EIA) and development of CEMPs, as they relate to construction, civil and/or infrastructure projects (advantageous)
- Experience in a similar role in either consulting, infrastructure, extractive and/or construction industry (preferred).
- Willingness to commit to a 2-year contract, with high potential for transition to permanent
