About the role
This is a permanent full-time role for a DER Optimisation Engineer, focused on improving the performance of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) across the CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy Network. You’ll be responsible for analysing DER performance, supporting compliance and system optimisation, and helping to resolve technical issues. The role involves working with internal teams and external stakeholders, developing and maintaining operational procedures, and supporting system security efforts. This position includes supporting major incident responses, mentoring junior engineers, and providing technical input on new connections. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and works well in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and report on DER performance, compliance, and system optimisation initiatives.
- Collaborate with internal teams to resolve DER and DSO system issues and develop network solutions.
- Contribute to the development and testing of system security mitigation controls and preparedness activities.
- Develop and maintain operational procedures, work instructions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Establish and maintain day-to-day monitoring capability for DER, DOE/SOE, flexibility services, and network control schemes.
- Identify and resolve systemic DER performance issues and short-term system security deficiencies.
- Lead support the creation of operational procedures for AEMO, TOC, and distribution networks.
- Optimise DER performance, network schemes, and flexibility services based on monitoring insights.
- Participate in the Major Incident Management (MIM) process for DSO system-related events.
- Provide technical inputs on large new connections, technical support to internal stakeholders, including training for Network Control & Operations teams.
- Represent the business in technical discussions with AEMO, TOC, manufacturers, and other external bodies.
- Support and mentor junior engineers while contributing to knowledge sharing and engineering development.
Key Criteria
- Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Communication or Software Engineering.
- Strong knowledge of DER technical standards (e.g. AS4777), CSIP-AUS, and distribution connection processes.
- Solid understanding of electrical distribution networks and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Proven problem-solving, data analysis, and communication skills.
- Experience working with DER technologies and supporting complex engineering projects.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
