About the Role

 

As a Senior Distribution Design Officer, you will lead and execute scoping, estimation, and design for maintenance and augmentation of overhead and underground distribution networks up to 66kV. You will also review and verify designs, support construction activities, and contribute to the development of design standards and innovative practices.

Key responsibilities

 

  • Prepare, review and update UE design drawings in the relevant design software and document management systems
  • Produce distribution and/or secondary designs that include an OH/UG drawings, material list, substation layouts and protection schemes, and earthing designs that adhere to regulations, technical and industry standards
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to clarify the scope of works, verify third-party asset owners and obtain relevant approvals
  • Assist with the development of design/drafting standards & policy in accordance with organisational, regulatory and statutory requirements
  • Provide general support to construction service providers and survey team.
  • Develop and implement new and innovative design/drafting practices and ways to meet business needs by applying technical expertise and experience
  • Leverage insights from past projects to drive continuous improvement in future designs.
  • Contribute ideas to enhance team capabilities and strengthen the company’s market position.
  • Support the development of asset management strategies, standards, and work practices.

 

 

To succeed in this role you will have

 

  • Electrical Engineering Qualifications e.g. certificate / diploma ( preferred)
  • Minimum of 5+ years of design/drafting experience in the electrical utility industry.
  • Proven design/drafting capabilities complying with network owners Design and Construction Standards, Applicable Australian Standards and Regulatory requirements both in the office and field environments for the following types of works:
    o    Design/drafting of overhead and underground lines up to 66kV 
    o    Design of Indoor, Pole, and Kiosk/Padmount, substations 
    o    Lighting Designs including zone substation yard lighting, Preferred or
    o    Design of zone substation protection and control schemes,
  • Detailed knowledge & understanding of regulatory requirements, OH&S Act, ‘Safety in Design’ guidelines, standards and codes 
  • Strong AutoCAD knowledge
  • NEARA Knowledge (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills
