About the Role:
We currently have an exciting, permanent engineering role available in our United Energy Design and Customer Delivery team! 
As a Senior Distribution Design Engineer, you will lead and execute scoping, estimation, and design for maintenance and augmentation of overhead and underground distribution networks up to 66kV. You will also review and verify designs, support construction activities, and contribute to the development of design standards and innovative practices.

In this role you will: 

  • Deliver specialist engineering design and advice for overhead and underground distribution networks (up to 66KV) in line with standards, technical manuals, and safety guidelines.
  • Ensure optimal design outcomes by balancing safety, technical, commercial, and environmental considerations.
  • Review and verify distribution designs and manufacturer drawings to meet agreed standards.
  • Develop and refine design standards and policies to align with organizational, regulatory, and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare and review scopes for network-initiated and customer-initiated projects.
  • Provide technical guidance to survey teams and support construction activities.
  • Introduce and implement innovative design practices to meet evolving business needs.
  • Leverage insights from past projects to drive continuous improvement in future designs.
  • Contribute ideas to enhance team capabilities and strengthen the company’s market position.
  • Support the development of asset management strategies, standards, and work practices.

 

To succeed in this role you will have: 

  • Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) (Mandatory).
  • Chartered Engineer (CPEng), National Engineering Register (NER), and RPEV registration (Desirable; mandatory ability to obtain in the future).
  • Solid experience in the power industry with expertise in electrical utility design, including overhead/underground lines (up to 66kV), substations, and lighting designs.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Australian Standards, regulatory requirements, OH&S Act, and 'Safety in Design' guidelines.
  • Proficient in design software (AutoCAD, NPoles, Relux, AGi32).
  • Strong communication skills and ability to drive innovation and adopt new technologies.
  • Proven technical leadership in mentoring engineers, guiding survey teams, and introducing new technologies to improve processes.
