About the role
We are seeking a DER Technical Support Analyst for a 12-month contract to support the integration and operation of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) across the CitiPower, Powercor, and United Energy networks. This role is critical in ensuring DER technologies are tested to comply with interoperability standards and onboarded to our Distribution System Operator (DSO) systems, addressing customer-related technical issues, monitoring DSO system performance, and supporting network operations. You will also assist in forecasting and dispatching flexibility services and contribute to the development of new processes as we continue to evolve our capabilities as a DSO.
What you’ll deliver:
- Test, validate, and onboard new Distributed Energy Resources (DER) technologies and new connections into DSO systems, ensuring compliance and performance standards are met.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with technology providers and key stakeholders to support DER integration.
- Collaborate with internal teams to troubleshoot and resolve DSO system or DER-related performance issues.
- Provide technical support and advice to resolve customer DER issues, complaints, and regulatory cases (including EWOV).
- Day to day monitoring of DER performance, system connectivity, and compliance with operating envelopes and network control schemes.
- Contribute to the development of operational procedures, work instructions, and continuous improvement initiatives for DER and DSO systems.
- Identify opportunities for improvements related to DER performance, Dynamic and Static Operating Envelopes (DOE/SOE), or DSO systems.
- Support system security preparedness through testing, procedure development, and providing technical assistance during events.
- Assist in short-term demand forecasting, scenario planning, and curtailment estimation to support network security.
- Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge across teams to support engineering capability and development.
To succeed in the role:
You will have a degree or diploma in Electrical, Communication, or Software Engineering, with sound knowledge of DER technical standards (e.g. AS4777), CSIP-AUS protocol, and distribution connection processes. Strong problem-solving and data analysis skills are essential, along with experience in DER technologies and familiarity with electrical distribution networks. Your ability to manage technical issues end-to-end, work collaboratively with stakeholders, and contribute to continuous improvement will be key to your success in this role.
