About the role:
We are currently seeking an experienced Cable Jointer to join our team based in Brooklyn (3012) in a full time and permanent capacity. In this role, you will be responsible for a range of tasks related to the construction, maintenance, servicing, and fault/emergency restoration of CitiPower and Powercor’s underground electricity distribution network.
You’ll play a key part in delivering on our customer service objectives by ensuring the safe, reliable, timely, and cost-effective supply of electricity and associated services.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a strong commitment to health and safety, and you must hold a current Victorian Driver’s Licence.
Key duties and responsibilities:
- Install and maintain electrical equipment (network infrastructure)
- Install and maintain de-energised LV / HV underground polymeric cables
- Perform straight through HV paper insulated to polymeric transition joint – preferred
- Operate plant, tools and equipment in relation to construction, commissioning, operating and maintenance of underground distribution systems
- Meeting quality requirements as measured by both internal and external clients
- Maintain a professional image at all times e.g. cleanliness of fleet, maintenance of fleet and equipment, uniform, job site etc.
- Ensure all activities are undertaken in accordance with company safe working practices and procedures, WHS legislation, industry codes, specifications and standards

Key criteria
- Working knowledge of electricity distribution network assets
- Understand and be proficient in required methods of jointing, terminating, installation and testing of cables
- The proven ability to assess work files from a written scope or maintenance file, ensuring related safety, quality, and client expectations are met
- The ability to respond to emergency and other activities issued verbally, undertake onsite assessment and make informed decisions as to actions required
- Use current data transfer systems as set out by CPAL for collecting/receiving field based information
Note: Employment will be subject to the candidate successfully completing a pre-employment medical examination (which includes a hearing test, colour blindness and physical examination) as well as relevant drug and alcohol testing and to assess fitness for work, reference checks, as well as Entitlement to Work in Australia checks.
Pre-requisites:
- You must submit copies of the following documents as part of your application to progress to the next stage.
- Incumbents may be required to undertake rostered out of hours faults duties.
- Certificate III ESI Distribution Cable Jointing (mandatory)
- ESI Worker (compulsory for Victoria based candidates, no requirement to attach evidence as information is already included in ESI Worker) including VESI Rigging
- ESV licence as a Cable Jointer or meet the eligibility criteria to apply (mandatory)
- Heavy Vehicle Licence (optional)
- Switching training / authority (optional)
