About the role

 

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our business as an Environmental Officer – Planning & Approvals. This is a full-time, two-year contract role based in either Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Brooklyn, or Melbourne. The successful candidate will support environmental, planning, and heritage assessments and approval processes for projects across CitiPower and Powercor.

 

We welcome applications from all locations and experienced Environmental Officers who are ready to step up and support the Major Projects team, ideally with a work knowledge of  approvals and environmental coordination in Victoria. The role is responsible for the coordination of environment and heritage assessment works, review of scopes and reports, and liaison with internal project teams, external consultants and approval authorities to support delivery of environmental and heritage approval processes for major projects.


What you’ll deliver

 

  • Assist with coordinating environmental, planning, and heritage assessments for projects to comply with relevant legislation across CitiPower and Powercor.
  • Assist in coordinating environmental and heritage works, making sure tasks are completed on time and in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist senior team members in working with external regulatory bodies (e.g., DEECA, councils) to obtain necessary approvals and remain compliant with relevant legislation.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of environmental and heritage management processes, tools, and procedures.
  • Act as a point of contact for internal project teams and external consultants, facilitating effective communication between all parties involved in the environmental and heritage approval processes.
  • Contribute to training initiatives by supporting the delivery of awareness programs on environmental and heritage management for internal teams.
  • Review project scopes, reports, and plans to identify and integrate environmental and heritage requirements, providing feedback to project teams as needed.
  • Track the progress of environmental and heritage approval processes and keeping relevant stakeholders informed.
  • Support compilation of approvals handover documentation to enable the HSE team to verify compliance with environmental and heritage requirements during construction.

 


To succeed in the role you’ll have 

 

  • Relevant Tertiary qualification in environmental science, environmental resource management or related field.
  • Construction induction training (white card), or the ability to obtain (required).
  • General understanding knowledge of environmental protection legislation relevant to construction projects and related field works (i.e. Planning and Environment Act, Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act, EPBC Act, EP Act).
  • Experience in a similar role in either consulting, infrastructure, extractive and/or construction industry.
  • Understanding of environmental management principles and practices, including ecological assessments (EIA) and development of CEMPs, as they relate to construction, civil and/or infrastructure projects (preferred but not prerequisite)
  • Knowledge of infrastructure projects, maintenance and construction practices (preferred but not prerequisite)
